Victoria Adler has lived in Jackson Heights, Queens for the past 11 years and works as a school-based speech-language pathologist in a neighborhood school. She is the author of two children's books, ALL OF BABY, NOSE TO TOES, and BABY, COME AWAY, as well as poetry, short fiction, and memoir for adult readers. Her short story "Where You've Never Been" was selected by the Best American Short Stories series as one of the 100 other distinguished stories of 2003.
Katie Flanagan considers herself a reader, writer, and chocolate-lover. While studying creative writing at Northwestern University in Chicago, she led the student PROMPT Literary Magazine, worked for Booktrope Publishing as an editor, and wrote book reviews for Line Zero Magazine. In NYC, she loves reading on the subway and writing in her Sunnyside Gardens apartment.
Jason Ferguson is a former theatre producer who now works as a copywriter and creative director. He has worked on Broadway and spent seven years working in London's West End. Highlights included an immersive production created by Punchdrunk theatre company and produced by Old Vic artistic director Kevin Spacey, set in the abandoned tunnels beneath Waterloo Station. His critically acclaimed production of Ragtime took the largest musical ever made and brought it to a room above a London pub. It received five Offie Award nominations (winning Best Ensemble) and was a Time Out Best of 2011. Current projects include creating a narrative VR film with Google about a Filipino cruise ship worker, directing and producing the 75th anniversary concert of the Broadway propaganda musical 'This is the Army', and continuing to work on his first full-length play.
Claire Zajdel is an Astoria based writer originally from the Chicago area. She a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts' Dramatic Writing program and she writes plays, non-fiction, fiction and screenplays. Most recently her play Golden Vanilla premiered at Thespis Theatre Festival's NYSummerfest.
Kelly Jean Fitzsimmons is a writer, teacher and storyteller. After earning her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Fairleigh Dickinson University, she created “No, YOU Tell It!,” a switched-up storytelling series with a twist. Learn more and listen to the podcast at noyoutellit.com. She lives in Astoria and teaches a monthly drop-in creative writing workshop at The Astoria Bookshop the third Sunday of every month.
Jamey Hansen is a massage therapist in a small college town surrounded by farmland in Central Illinois. She lived in Astoria once upon a time before she became a nurse, but after she graduated from college and toured the countryside in her little red Subaru with her girlfriend Meg. She really misses being the first stop on the orange-yellow seated N train, the 13 block trek to her homey walk-up near the park, and the nod to Greece in lawn statues and window dressings she would admire on her jaunt home from the train.
